The EDL-Quilliam-Student Rights connection

The decision by Stephen Yaxley-Lennon aka ‘Tommy Robinson’, erstwhile leader of the far-right Islamophobic English Defence League, to quit, has seen numerous sensible commentators express scepticism over whether he has changed his views at all.

However, a controversial outfit called the Quilliam Foundation, decided to welcome Tommy into the fold apparently unquestioningly. Now it has emerged that virulent Islamophobes Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer have reaffirmed their support for Robinson, which strongly suggests that he has not changed a bit – and making Quilliam look like dupes whose actions have only served to legitimise a dangerous racist.

This is of interest to Real Student Rights because the Quilliam Foundation’s Ghaffar Husain sits on the advisory board of ‘Student Rights’. (He was appointed in June 2013 to replace Tom Brake MP, the Lib Dem who quit in the wake of widespread criticism from students and student representatives).
