Student Rights director promotes ‘counterjihad’-style propaganda against Islam

Bob Pitt from the blog Islamophobia Watch has written an important article noting the kind of material that the director of Student Rights, Raheem Kassam, publishes on his site ‘Trending Central’.

As founder and editor of the site, he notes that Kassam is editorially responsible for a piece by Ed Kozak which speaks of ‘the threat Islam poses to the West, and its fundamental incompatibility with modern liberal Western values.’

Pitt notes that it is difficult to see how  such rhetoric ‘differs in any way from the sort of poisonous anti-Muslim rhetoric that you find on “counterjihad” websites like Jihad Watch or Atlas Shrugs’.

Given the fact that Student Rights has directed its readers via a link to the Atlas Shrugs website (a hate-site run by U.S.-based Pamela Geller who was banned from entering the country earlier this year) it is hardly surprising – though still highly disturbing – that Kassam should choose to publish this material

He also has a previous record of publishing articles which whip up Islamophobia. Even political allies have accused him on Twitter of ‘flirting with anti-Muslim bigotry’. Far from denying this, Kassam simply replied ‘I’m a flirtatious kind of guy‘.
